Ai no Kusabi and Berserk both contain the same themes of the darkness of the human heart and karma. They also have a massive amoints of sex and violence, but Ai no Kusabi has less violence but still the same brooding atmosphere as the second Berserk movie. Not only are the animation designs very similar as well, they both have great animation and a great cast of characters.

Both anime have a main protagonist who uses a giant sword to fight all sorts or creatures, both humans and monsters. They contain a lot of action and violence, as well as protagonists with anti-hero qualities. The only difference is that the events of DMC happen in modern times, while the events of Berserk happen in medieval times.

Both are epic medieval fantasy anime, featuring monsters and knights. Both have a lot of gritty action, gore and violence. The main protagonists in both anime have similar anti-heroic personalities.
