New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAnime that contain the otherworldly and enigmatic beings from space! Sometimes, you just want to see cute characters suffer. Agh!! Everyone's in emotional and/or physical anguish! These shows end on a mostly bad note, so beware. I mean, if you need a bewaring. I'm guessing not. Spoilers, if that wasn't already apparent. 100% purity here! Not a single bit of nonsense relating to sex. This is a part of a series of stacks that are about artistic tendencies in anime (and that border the fine line between sophisticated and pretentious). This list includes arthouse (gonna strech this term in this list) that are have multiple episodes that from one story, so compilations like Neo Tokyo or Genius Party will not be in here. I see this story pattern in anime where young people under 18 who are, not so enthusiastically, made to save the world/a crisis in their storylines. Here’s some anime that fit this trope. The criteria here is simple: Anime released in any year, with under 160,000 MAL Members, and which I've rated a 7 or higher. Series that utilize philosophical approach when it comes to their portrayal of society. Usually featuring "outsider" perspective as a main vehicle for the exploration of the "society" and the philosophy. Anime that I enjoy! There's usually no fanservice in these, and if there is it's only very little. All these anime either: 50 different series from 50 different years. While most of these are my favorites from year to year, I have included some I thought should get a bit more of a spotlight on. It actually took me a lot longer to put this list together than I thought it would, some years had a lot of good picks and it was hard to pick out either a favorite or one that should be highlighted. The OVA market dried up as straight to video releases became a thing of the past, which is unfortunate because a lot of interesting and unique anime were released in this format. The point of the list is to feature worthwhile OVAs that are more than just fanservice or shoddy extras for TV series. Sigh, due to the explicit content warning feature, I've excluded Mezzo Forte, but it would be on here otherwise. I should also probably make room for Yukikaze at some point. |
