This list includes arthouse (gonna strech this term in this list) that are have multiple episodes that from one story, so compilations like Neo Tokyo or Genius Party will not be in here.
Expect TV anime series and OVAs (they usually have 3-6 episodes 20-40 minutes each).

Regarding TV anime, here you'll find more "modern" series like Kaiba, Haibane Renmeim Flip Flappers, Sonny Boy, Artiswitch which feel a bit different from 80's shows but are still very unique compared to your typical anime so I believe they qualify.

The criteria here is simple: Anime released in 2001 or earlier, with under 25,000 MAL Members, and which I've rated a 6 or higher.

A rating of 6 counts for this second Obscurities list given the increased obscurity. A 6 is still an alright score. I've excluded anything that's particularly well-known, like Speed Racer or Voltron, despite both meeting my criteria.

It is perhaps worth noting that I rate things entirely on gut feeling. It's just, "I like that, that was good, it gets a 7.", that's the whole process. I can also find enjoyment in just about anything and there's very little that bothers me.

No dubs with imitation American accents are included, only proper Bri'ish voices.

Let me know of any mistakes or anything that should be on the list.

Thrillers, Political dramas, mysteries, and action films that are a little too aware of the way things work...

"You cannot stare evil in the face; it has no face. It has no body, no bones, no blood. Any attempt to describe it ends in glibness and self-delusion."
- Mario Spezi & Douglas Preston, The Monster of Florence

"Who can gaze into the mirror without becoming evil? The mirror does not reflect evil, but creates it."

Before the likes of Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon conquering the kids in the west, it was actually Akira that opened the door and made people realize that the cartoons coming from Japan weren't what you would expect from Disney or your TV channels.
A huge flood of VHS tapes came showing animations with mature themes, absurd plots, and enough graphic sex and violence to make parents freak out... what a glorious time!
They don't make cartoons like this anymore.

This is a comprehensive list with stuff from very good to very trashy, but all in the same spirit.
Some early 00's also included.

ps: I also recommend, but can't include here, Kage (OVA).

Gothic art is an aesthetic movement which places heavy emphasis on an atmosphere of mystery, terror and haunting. It is commonly characterised by supernatural entities and occurrences, unsettling and macabre narratives, a preoccupation with the past, bleak and decaying landscapes, claustrophobic and oppressive atmospheres as well as heavy use of metaphors and psychological conflicts. The aim of this stack is to collect notable and defining works which incorporate the Gothic and/or elements of the genre in the medium of anime.

All the anime that our dear Sahgo has listed in the series of videos he has made. As I myself am on a similar project of watching old anime, I decided to put together this list to help me organize myself.

Below is the playlist where he comments a little about each anime listed. Watch it!

Aqui embaixo vai a playlist que ele comenta um pouco sobre cada anime listado. Assistam!

The Taishō (1912-1926) and the earlier decades of the Shōwa (1926-1989) periods had an interesting aesthetic that's rarely featured in anime. I'm not sure where I'll have the cutoff point for the Shōwa period, but I'll emphasize earlier decades—around 1920s-1960s, but maybe a little later if the aesthetic is right. I'll only be featuring one entry per series, so following seasons of whatever appears on here will probably be relevant. I'll probably add the years for each title later.

There's a Taishō list already, so I'll probably be more choosy with that period:

A collection of non-H anime with a focus on sibling relationships. The relationship between them must be the primary character relationship of the anime's narrative or have heavy romantic or sexual implications. Same sex siblings are only included if they are explicitly romantic or sexual.

This list contains anything with Incest Score 38-40.

Rintaro is the pseudonym of Shigeyuki Hayashi, a well-known director of anime. He works frequently with the animation studio Madhouse (which he co-founded), though he is a freelance director not employed directly by any one studio. He began working in the animation industry—at age 17—as an in-between animator on the 1958 film Hakujaden. His works have won and been nominated for multiple awards, including a nomination for Best Film (Metropolis) at the 2001 Festival de Cine de Sitges.

Rintaro is a fan of science fiction, and has been influenced by American westerns, gangster films, film noir, and French films. Additionally, he was influenced by Osamu Tezuka, and worked with him on Kimba the White Lion and Astro Boy. He said that when he was making Metropolis, which was based on Tezuka's manga of the same name, he "wanted to communicate Tezuka's spirit". Rintaro personally introduced the film at the Big Apple Anime Fest in 2001, where it was screened before its theatrical release by TriStar Pictures.
