The Animation Kobe (アニメーション神戸) was an event established by Kobe in 1996 to promote anime and other visual media. The Animation Kobe Awards (アニメーション神戸賞) were given annually until 2015 by Kobe and the Organizing Committee to creators and creations. Titles in which the characters are piloting flying devices (planes, brooms, etc) within the atmosphere. The characters being pilots is relevant to the plot, and during a big part of screen time there is action in the air. As far as I'm concerned there's an anime about pretty much everything if you look hard enough: diving, underwear design, insurance investigation (yup!) and don't even get me started on cooking. So there, picked titles with main characters directly involved and at least some focus on whatever they're doing for a living or a hobby or both. When I first started watching anime, I thought anime was basically a kind of animation with a unique art style. But now I am seeing that most anime comes with a lot of tropes, and a lot of people see these tropes as part of anime. I am not a fan of these tropes, so I am making a list of anime that I like, and I feel have a relatively low amount of tropes, at least compared to most other anime. I still haven't watched a lot of anime, for example - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. But I will add more anime as I watch them. Shows where ships play some fairly notable part in the story. Stack is biased toward ocean-going vessels. Submarines are also included. There are not many space thrillers, so I thought I would make a list. OVAs made in the 2000s and beyond that carry on the spirit of the 80s/90s OVA -- a fun, standalone story told in a short amount of time, supported by great production values. A collection of anime that follows the theme of humanity vs. an existential threat. Whether its an alien invasion, a mutation of species, tech gone wild, or angry gods, humanity as a whole has their existence threatened and is forced to respond. Whether it be through giant robots, human rights violations, cute girls, or the actual power of friendship these stories portray a fun and often bitter battle to save civilization in whatever form can be maintained. Animaze was a company that was formed in 1992 by Kevin Seymour and was in-work up until about 2008 following a closure in 2010 after Seymour had passed away. Animaze, outside of anime, has also dubbed many video games! Regardless, as follows are the anime that Animaze have dubbed! Hokuto no Ken and Super Dimension Century Orguss are excluded because they did not dub the full show! Grumpy Jii-san was an anime reviewer and hiking enthusiast. Many of us were fond of him. This is the fourth part of a list of the anime he reviewed in video order from oldest to newest. They are presented without his score as mild encouragement for you to watch his reviews. |
