New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAnime can be more than the same one trick pony we see time and time again... A medium for varied and complex approaches to storytelling. Art house, in relation to cinema, is a genre of films that are intended to be serious artistic works rather than merely popular entertainment but the descriptor can also be applied to anime. Furthermore, avant-garde refers to innovative, experimental, radical or unorthodox concepts and techniques. This can of course also be used in reference to anime and manga. Featuring little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere. Experimental, surreal, abstract, trippy or just artsy. Gothic art is an aesthetic movement which places heavy emphasis on an atmosphere of mystery, terror and haunting. It is commonly characterised by supernatural entities and occurrences, unsettling and macabre narratives, a preoccupation with the past, bleak and decaying landscapes, claustrophobic and oppressive atmospheres as well as heavy use of metaphors and psychological conflicts. The aim of this stack is to collect notable and defining works which incorporate the Gothic and/or elements of the genre in the medium of anime. There is no duration limit. hailing around the era of the ussr, alot of animaters started started pumping out extremely esoteric, avante gaarde animation. this stack serves as an accessable guide to japanese productions that, in music and visuals seek to mimic that era. examples that i can include for short comparison: fantastic planet(its french but has clear czechoslovakian influence), Steamed Hams but it was banned in the USSR(no seriously), and any andrey khrzhanovsky film. |
