Are you looking to watch something a little off the beaten path but still worth your while? I have some hidden gems for you. This interest stack has been picked from the Hidden Gems of Anime club featuring our fantasy anime movie picks!

The "Scotland Loves Anime" film festival takes place annually in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It was started in 2010 and includes the "Golden Partridge" jury award and audience-voted awards.

The past winners of the Golden Partridge Award are as follows.

2016: Kimi no Na wa.
2017: Yoake Tsugeru Lu no Uta
2018: Penguin Highway
2019: Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara
2020: n/a

In 2017, the live action Tokyo Ghoul film had its UK premiere at SLA.

In 2019, Isora Iwakiri's film The Sacrament had its UK premiere at SLA.

In 2020, the festival was hosted online. It also included Penguin Highway, Production I.G.'s short film collection and Weathering With You.

Collection of films and OVAs (and one TV series) that "feel" like Ghibli films, but aren't related to the studio and aren't connected to its canon lineup. Factors considered include story beats and character designs that are often seen in Ghibli works as well as works by Ghibli staff completed for other studios.

Featuring little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere.

Recommendations for fans of The Legend of Zelda

These pieces have a harmony, uniqueness or just an x-factor to their overall aesthetic presence, to include music/sound design.

This is not to be confused with animation though. While the two intersect, if something is interesting only for its animation quality, hopefully it's not here.

This collection of series, movies and shorts represent a specific mood, expressed within the anime media. Their pace is most likely slow, and are usually focused at the complex emotional web that surrounds the worlds and characters that are within them.

In each of them the feelings which are translated onto the viewer are those of comfort, but also anxiety, affection, as well as sorrow. The balance and the depth in which they are presented varies from show to show as well as from the personal perception and worldview that each viewer has. Their main unity point is that they tuck on our heartstrings and provokes our empathy towards the unwinding chaos and turmoil.

These selected series presents us relatable, even if based on fiction stories - which even within it's bleakness and darkness, holds a silver of hope and warmth or which conceals within their bright and vivid colors sublime, gentle, but ever present feelings of despair and sadness.

Releases which draw in meaningful ways from the named esoteric Hellenic spiritual tradition in their symbolism, themes, or both (Alchemy, Kabbalah, etc.). Most elements from the practice are fairly perennial in their implementation, and this is something up to interpretation, so I've tried to be strict without relying on explicit references.

Stoicism appears to be reserved for men in society, and especially in media. It's also the stereotypical behavior that people associate with men. And as nice as that sounds, we know that's not true. Men can be emotional, vulnerable, and much more, colorful than what meets the eye.

However, what about women? Can they be stoics? Of course!!!

This stack represents some of anime's well-known lady stoics, and some underground choices as well. (Based on anime I've watched.)

For the sake of argument, for me, stoicism is embodied when the character are not just indifferent to pain and pleasure and present herself as someone rational, they are also highly independent characters, nuanced, has "conquered their feelings", and chooses that their morals and values are the way to a happy life, whatever that means to them.



Feel free to tell me if I missed anyone or that someone in this list does not deserve to be a stoic. Arguments will be judged.

The 100 Best Anime Movies is a book created by Álvaro López Martín and David Heredia Pitarch, which seeks to review those films in the history of anime that they consider the best, thus generating a complete guide to those works that are a must-see for those who are starting in the world of anime cinema as well as those who were already there.

Personally, although I would add some and remove others, I can certainly say that it is a fairly complete list and that it could be useful for someone who is interested in entering this fascinating world.
